Scotiabank Marathon & McDonald's Half-marathon

The certified marathon route takes runners along the scenic 'rails-to-trails' network of Fredericton. Following and traversing both the Saint John and Nashwaak rivers, the route is flat and fast.

The new course begins and ends at Officers Square in downtown Fredericton. The marathon and half-marathon commence with two loops of Ste-Anne's Point (apprx. 5 km) before turning down Carleton Street and across the pedway (near Light House) onto the City's trail network along the river (Limpert Lane) - the pedway is the only real "hill" on the half-marathon course. Once on the trail, runners proceed down river to the walking bridge (old Train Bridge). The bridge takes them across the St. John River to Devon. Just past the Community Trail Station, the course turns right onto the Gibson Trail, crosses over the Nashwaak River and heads north towards the town "Boss Gibson" built, Marysville. After passing through the woods and following the Nashwaak River, the Gibson Trail ends on McGloin Street in front of the old Cotton Mill. Runners then cross the Nashwaak one again via Bridge Street and immediately turn north onto the Nashwaak Trail and follow it upstream for a couple of kilometres before arriving at the turn-around. On the return trip, runners remain on the Nashwaak trail, crossing Bridge Street and continuing south to Devon; across the St. John River; and then upstream back to the Pedway.

At this point the half-marathoners cross back over the Pedway (The pedway is the only "hill" on the half-marathon course.) and sprint down the length of the parking lot to the finish. Marathoners continue up river along the trail, past the Lieutenant-Govenors residence, to the Delta Hotel. Here the runners transfer to the sidewalk along the Woodstock road for about a kilometre, before crossing the intersection of Woodstock Road and Golf Club Road onto the Valley Trail. In another kilometre, the Valley Trail crosses the Woodstock Road once again before passing through Angel View Park and continuing upstream past Harts Island and the Bucket Club (there's a small hill here) to Silverwood - turning a bit past the Silverwood lift station. Here the Marathoners turn-around and reverse their path (with a negative split of course) back into town, across the Pedway, and down the parking lot to the finish at Officers Square.
