Hey everyone!

Thought I would check in and see how the 26/30 gang is doing. I am still training for my first marathon, the Portland Marathon on Oct. 5. I completed an 18-mile run last weekend and it felt great. I never imagined myself saying, "I've only got a ten mile run tonight" or "This weekend's run is only 14 miles." Dang, I feel like I've come a long way, if I may say so

FYI, Seattle signed on as a Rock n Roll Marathon city for June. If I get through Portland unscathed, I'm definitely signing up for that one. Oh,and I'm ready for another 26/30 challenge this November...anyone else?

Hope everyone is enjoying the end of summer!

Great to hear from some of you, great that we get to take on this new challenge together in January. This morning I ran w/about 10 people dn the Rose Parade route after walking thru the staging area and seeing the floats up close. What a cool run dn the middle of the boulevard as the crowd awaited the start of the parade. By the time we got to the very end, 5 mi later, the F-14 Jets flew over to signal the start of the parade. Coffee and comradaree followed at Starbucks and then I was fortunate enough to be able to get a ticket to the Rose Bowl Game in the afternoon to see my Trojans beat on the Illini. Tomorrow I continue with a hilly tempo run w/my coach. should be a good butt kicking time for me.

finished out june with 198.6 miles. next race is the skyline 50k starting out of lake chabot in castro valley. it's vacation time now. this morning's workout was so much what i needed: 6.5 mile beach run, dip in the ocean, few laps in the pool, jacuzzi time, and then back into my pajamas while coffee brews and the kids and mrs sleep in.

Ingrid stay safe and dry. William congrats on your 5K pr, great time!

On Sat I ran the South Pasadean Tiger Run 10k and am Happy to say met my goal to set a new PR, 45:58. I guess real fast guys in my AG (40-44) did not show up for this local race because I also took 1st place in my AG. My previous PR on a flater course was 47:44 and my time in this race last year was 49:11. So I am happy to see much improvements from a year ago. Took Sunday off and after packing my shoes and clothes to work today and planning to run all day, did not. So 2 days off in a row! I've got the RoseBowl Half Mary this Sat so I'll be going out tomorrow with the emphasis this week of 2 longer runs. Flat wore out the running shoes last month. Passed the 400mile mark, so ordered my self a new pair. supposed to rain on this Sat's hilly part trail corse. so i'm not putting any PR expectations on myself. Will go for the PR in either the Jan or April 1/2 mary.

Hi all,

This week in sin city, I ran the half marathon, with a PR of 2:45:45. Since I'm a slow runner, this is a really good time for me. I've never run 13 miles in under 3 hours before.

It was cool but not windy. The fireworks at the beginning were great as we ran down the Strip. The running Elvi were interesting as were any number of costumed people. I congratulated a few couples who were planning to get married at mile 5.

After the race, we were able to go outlet shopping and see a show in the evening. A good night's rest and my legs were fine.

Happy Thanksgiving! today i and many others here raced the 5k trot. I want to say I had a great race because i had a good fin time. But "racing" a 5k hard is one of the most painful things to do. the hurt is really on for 20 something minutes. did this race 2 years ago at the end of my first Triathlon season(24:27). that was my last 5k. Pr'd earlier that year on a flat fast beach course (23:05). So i put the expectation on myself today that I should be faster/stronger after 2 continuous years of semi-serious multi-sport training and racing and 26/30ing this month. Had goal of 22:15 (7:10/mi) and I was close so happy w/that, but like i said w/lots of pain. Just don't know if this 40 yr old body can go much faster then that. Have i hit the age/speed ceiling? we'll see.

Unofficial Time: 22:34, PR by 31 seconds. Hard race, pain in front of both shins, some cramping first 1/2 on rt side. felt like crap the first mile, hurting, slowed in mile 2, fast last mile (dn hill) just end this thing! Splits: 715, 731, 639, 106 (640pace)

next year need to have a race strtegy of how to properly pace the 1.25mi uphill start. stupid me thought i'd equal split the race for some reason.

Congratulations to Bruce (3rd ag) and Sue (1st ag)!!! in a big 1000+ field

was nice to race with so many of my 26/30 comrads

Its week 2! since you will see this post at the top for the whole week, I'll use the space the remind...1) Please send me pictures of you, or your favoraite trail or route, or anything remotely related to your 26/30 experience. I challenge all of us to take a camera or phone out on one of our shorter runs this week and take some pics. 2) It was sugested to me, so I will unofficially declare that there will be a unofficial 26/30 group race on Thanksgiving Day, The Run For The Hungry 5k in La Canada. http://www.runforthehungry.com/ Even if you do not race come on out that morning and cheer for your friends. There are already some of you signed up. Who are you? Let us know so that we can join you and get some 26/30 group mojo going at the race. Lastly tell us (and promote) about your race(s) you have coming up as well. I know there are races locally on Dec 1,2 and 8 that some of us are doing. Post them on the Event section for everybody to see. There will probably be some 26/30 banter that continues into Dec-Jan as people report on how they are doing and/or how races went. thats all, now go run!

Congratulations on stepping up to the challenge! We will all attempt to successfully run 26 times in the next 30 days, November 1-30. This is not a contest or a race. This is a group that will encourage and support each other in achieving this goal. We will be acountable to each other, hence creating new power in our motivation to get out that door and run.

This will be a forum of sharing fitness/running ideas, questions, knowledge, struggles, challenges, victories, acomplishments and a unique way of getting to know each other better.

TBD are any cool/fun events we may want to wrap aound this. Ideas so far are; a kick off group run the morning of Nov 1 followed by breakfast, a ending event of some kind, and 1 or 2 designated group races. We have time so please please post your ideas of how you think this could be made even more cool, motivating and fun for all of us.

There are some of us in this group who do not know each other yet (which I think is especially cool) so insert picture, FIRST NAME and a tidbit of yourself in your "My Profile" above and in your opening posts share more and provide links to personal blogs, facebooks, websites or whatever.

I'm excited to have you all aboard! SO LETS RUN!!!

Godspeed, Marvin

For those who want to join in, I will be running the Rose Bowl on Tuesday and Thursday nights for month of November. I'm going to start at 6:30 PM. 1 loop or longer around the Rose Bowl from the Aquatic Center. This is a go at your own pace. The distance is about 3.5 miles. Goal is to work up to 2 loops or 3 loops depending upon progress.

I'm slow, so if there are other slow runners, don't hesitate to join. We can push each other!

What’s up everybody? I’m looking at this challenge as a way
to create consistency as I build my base for the season ahead. I
had been increasing my daily run mileage while increasing the number of rest
days per week. For November, I’m going to switch it up a little, drop some per
run mileage and focus my effort on getting out 6 days a week. I’m also going to
give myself some flexibility to run mid-day or evening instead of strictly morning (which
running less per run miles allows). Does it sound like I’m on the
right track? Is consistency a main objective here?

Hey gang, i hope your running life is strong and healthy. We're 8 days out, so lets start the shraring of how we are all doing leading up to Nov 1.

*Oh look MMR has just reorganized the forum comments. they are in crono order now the latest 10. This is much easier for us to read, comment and see the latest. So that we can easily read the whole corno string of run reports and realated messages as they surpass 10 comments, I will start a discussion topic at the beginning of each Running Week beginning w/Nov 1-7 then Nov 8-14. so that we can click that discussion topic only and see all the messages from that week. ok?

Feel free to continue inviting people and please identify your self w/at least your first name if you haven'e done so. I'm so exciited to be running w/18 friends, some whom i don't even know yet! See the kick off event on Nov 1 hope you can join us.

10/24 run report: was going to run a new trail climb today called Clamshell in Monrovia w/PTC friend and coach, Rich, but we canceled just now because of the bad air from the fires. trying to do 5 runs this week, been doing 4per. BTW I long run, 6-8mi, tomorrow with some in this group (Sue, David) the same Rosebowl route listed for Nov 1 , run with us!
