I'm currently using a small LED headlamp for running at night on the roads but would like something brighter for use on the trail runs. The current light is called cyclops and is found at pro bass shops and cabela's for ten dollars. I've aslo tried the petzl tika and zipka but found those to be to shallow of a light. Would like something rechargable and bright enough for a trail run as well as for cars to see me while on the road lightweight would be good too but I'm sure both can't be had.

JP...The "Aurora" LED headlamp from PrincetonTec is small but powerful and does the job for me. I often run quiet NYC streets after work at night and motorists are a concern. The unit has 5 intensities, high, medium, low, slow flash, fast flash. Powered by 3 AAA batteries, it gives off an intense light in high. When in trafficked streets I use the slow flash mode. While intended to use around your head, it can be adapted...the strap adjust to a small enough size that I wear it on my arm. www.princetontec.com will provide all info you need. Run safe.

    JP-

I use a Tikka Plus, but it sounds as though you're just not satisfied with that general class of light. So I'd suggest looking at this thread on the Runner's World site- http://forums.runnersworld.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/194106038/m/7481049393

The guy  who wrote about that lighting system is a doc (Willis Huang), and very thorough in his analysis of his lighting choices.
