Are the short's version of the Skins any good? i was thinking about getting some for both running and playing hockey because someone said they really stop build up of lactic acid and muscle ache. would the shorts version of them do just as well? i mostly get ache in my groin and hamstrings anyway, so this would be the area i want to target.

I have the skins shorts and have to say they are brilliant. I purchased a few other cheaper varieties in both long and shorts but skins are great. Very pricey though so I would check the sites the other posters have suggested.

Just thought I'd add that I bought a pair of full length Skins tights to go with the skins shorts I had for summer. Although very pricey they are unbelievable. Doing 15km runs - gone is the sore knees, sore calves, sore shins!!

Incredible. The trick is to wear them for up to an hour after during recovery. And yes I always wear shorts over mine.....

More importantly, I have noticed a difference on my knees since wearing tights particularly when theres a cold wind, I wouldnt train without them!

I just have nike standard running ones and they are fine, breathable as well.

Hi, Guys.

I have worn Skins and Linebreak long and short tights when training for about three years now. I am a rugby referee and I have worn the Linebreak short tights and a skins shirt under my kit for the last three seasons. I often put the long skins on straight after showering from a game and wear them through to the following morning for recovery - great help. I also wear the long skins on longhaul plane flights - again great.

When I am training, I do not wear other shorts on top. I find this uncomfortable and it removes part of the freedom of movement you otherwise get. I have even been encouraged by my Pilates instructors (female) to wear my short tights and a tight T-shirt (the Nike-pro shirts are good) when in Pilates classes. She can then see exactly what muscles I am using and there is no hiding place!

Meanwhile, what is it with all of this prudishness! On the beaches in here Australia now, it is considered poor form for a bloke to wear Speedos. For God's sake people - get over it. Are men so afraid of being branded "gay" that they daren't wear tight sports gear? Are women so confronted by the outline of men's genitalia that wearing legitimate sporting apparel is "weird". There is so much paranoia now about men's sexuality, it is restricting people's lives! Look at the massive drop in numbers of men in junior school teaching - where male role models are most needed!

So I am going to continue to wear the best sports apparel for my activity. If that is body hugging, so what. If you don't want to see it, don't look!

Cheers. :-)

and if you gotta ask about what to wear under... tech fiber running undies, boys. no cotton as you'll sweat too much & freeze if you're really working it or going long. i love my brooks undies w/the windstopper panel on the front. makes all the difference.

And your advice to the ladies would be, wear a granny dress over you
jogbra, and running shorts. When the Kenyans start running in baggies
maybe I'll give it a try.
When it get below 40 degrees I start wearing my tights. When training for the Las Vegas Marathon in 1999 I did some of my long
runs at 10 - 15 degrees below zero. Let my say tights are great, and
the more colorful the better. Just like with cycling shorts compression
has been proven to reduce muscle fatigue and increase efficiency and
performance. Even when it's warmer I often wear above the knee tights
because they eliminate chaffing. Hell I don't worry about how I look in
tights I once drove from Denver to Alvord, Texas to run a 5K naked!

I wear very short (1.5-2" inseam) split shorts when it's really warm outside. Nike is my favorite brand for shorts.

I wear tights for my runs when it's bellow 55F. I use Under Armour tights with mesh inserts for ventilation. They are from their Heat Gear collection, which is designed for warm weather. I know many people say it's too warm, but I just don't like to feel cold (or cool) wind blowing against my knees, and those tights from Heat Gear collection are really great for warm weather.

When it's bellow 45F I run in Nike tights which are warmer. I ran a couple of times in Under Armour tights from Cold Gear collection, but I hated them - the inner layer somehow kept pulling my leg hair, which was very distracting and even painful at times. Plus they didn't have a pocket for key, which I discovered only when I went running :) But Nike tights are just great and they feel tighter than Under Armour at the same size (I wear Medium, 31-33).

When it's bellow 35 I run in very warm Mizuno tights which have an extra layer at the crotch area to make them warmer.

I never wear any shorts on top of my tights and I don't wear underwear under any of my running pants (either shorts or tights). It just doesn't make any sense. It's like wearing extra boots on top of your sneakers. Also running shorts have built-in underwear which is enough. And under tights underwear creates weird looking lines and it's just not comfortable.

I have no idea what people mean by saying one is supposed to wear shorts over tights - that's just so ugly, it would be aesthetically offensive for me to look like that. Besides, due to regular exercise I look great in my athletic cloths, why should I hide it? No, not me, I am proud of how I look and enjoy showing off :)
