So, I'm going to start training again for a marathon, and thought I'd keep track of miles and what not here  so that I always have it at hand and can look at it when I need a little boost.

The marathon I decided on is the Catalina Marathon in March. Now, those of you who are close to me and Matt know that our goal was to leave in February. But I also know that the reality is that he will not be transfered unless he threatens to walk away from the job; I don't see him doing that in Feb. so, I think it's a safe bet that we'll be here in March. I also am no too keen to moving to some random area of the US when we have friends here now.

So we're here for now, I'm not going to wait for us to move to start, ahem, moving so to speak. Yesterday I puttered out a lame 2 miles. Uphill for one mile, and then down and back. I had a throbbing headache, which I still have, so I was not in the mood to push it.

I also did some research on running "clubs" in the area. I'm not sure what these groups do, but will get more info/participate when we get back from the honeymoon. They're cheap, and I guess some people would be training for the same marathon as me. This is a plus because it is an extremely intense and difficult marathon. Here's a pic of the topography of the course:
    Dem some HILLS!

And here's a little chart that shows the elevation of the course:

    Check out miles 17-20...

So why would I choose this race?? Well, I like challenges. And, did I mention it's entirely off-road (i.e. not on pavement) and there is a huge herd of buffalo that you're pretty much guaranteed to see as some point in the race. I guess they filmed a movie in the 50's on the island and
brought in something like 8-10 buffalo and left them there to multiply. Sounded pretty cool to me.

So this won't be super detailed - I have a workout/food journal for that. But I liked having my miles all in one place, so here they'll reside.

Wow, that's awesome.  I can't imagine running up anything even close to that - do you actually run for all of miles 16-20??  I've got a ~1/2 mile hill near my house that climbs ~200 feet and it about kills me, I couldn't possibly do that for multiple miles!
