I'm curious if anyone has any inspirational mantras or quotes that they have heard that can motivate them.  One of my favorites is from "Fight Club".

"I ran. I ran until my muscles burned, and my veins pumped battery acid.  And then I ran some more."

Y'know what... I think that probably one of the best mantras for any situation in life ever for motivation comes, accidently, from Nike...

    "Just do it"

I, myself, find no problem in getting in to gear to doing anything I have planned to do usually... but I found myself saying this A LOT to my house mates, other friends, etc, in terms of revision, sorting out getting a job, getting fit, doing the cleaning, you name it. People come up with far too many excuses. And really... you can say what you want, but in the end, it's soooooo much easier to stop over analysing things, stop anticipating how much you might hate it... whatever... just stop all that and JUST DO IT!!! End rant Tongue out

I wish I could bring you something more profound from a philosopher or something. In the case of running though... if you consider yourself a runner, then it's easy enough, it's in your blood, you don't need to think about it :)

But realistically, what also helps is "oh gosh, I'm getting fat" or "cripes, I have a race in a month's time", or "I don't want to have a heart attack", or whatever else it is that is the true motivator.

Thinking about the training montage from Rocky IV is a quick fix sometimes.  As for quotes, I like these one..

"There are clubs you can't belong to, neighborhoods you can't live in, schools you can't get into, but the roads are always open."
    Nike

"What matters is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight - it's the size of the fight in the dog."
    Dwight D. Eisenhower

    Matthew 17:20

He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

One my coach used to say in high school track, "Slow and steady wins the race...stick 'em quick, now that's the trick."

The end of my regular running route is 1 mile uphill.

No Quitter, No Quitter, No Quitter........................

Gets me up it time and time again.

One I've pretty much lived my life with is one that father would always say to me.

"It's better to aim high and miss; rather than aim low and be reaching"

Not only can you use it for a running situation, but w/e life throws at you.

I like the Addidas sponsors slogan on the back of my Dublin Marathon finishers shirt " impossible is nothing"

When I am struggling during a run, or trying to get motivated, I just remind myself how thankful I am that my body is capable of running.  I don't know what I would do if I couldn't run-many of us take it for granted.  One foot in front of the other....get going!
