Is it too much to ask for runners to look over their shoulder BEFORE crossing the yellow line on the shared trails? With 3/4 of them using MP3 players, my ding-bell has no effect.

If they were driving a car, would they do the same?

I hate those kids too that, while driving with a cell phone and eating a Big Mac seem to find time to scream at me out the window while I'm cycling.

They make allusions as to how I'm fat and shouldn't be on a bike although I'm doing something good for myself while they're destroying themselves with a burgers and cigarettes.

They tend to get offended when I reply while rubbing my bike shorts "Yeah??? Well, your mom likes it." and I just wink at them.

Regarding runners wearing headsets: On may military installations (that's where I work) you cannot run with head phones just as you can not drive or bike with them. Pisses off the die-hard runners as though they're special or something but the rule comes from those who wear headphones and don't look where they are going so they brought it on themselves.

Ok, another group of useless people that really irritate me.

OLD PEOPLE IN BUIKS!!!!!!

I was nearly hit by one yesterday and the old fool actually had the 'nads to scream at me and call me an asshole from the parking lot of a local fat-burger joint.

When I confronted him, he continued to call me an asshole and told me to get off the road and ride on the side walks where I'm "supposed to be". Ok, Beaver, Mom's calling.

I calmly reminded him that he had nearly hit me with his Buik and that the Georgia codes allow me to ride in the road but to no avail. Never attempt to confuse people with the facts.

He continued to call me an asshole and my relpy was: "Yes, I am an asshole but I am an informed, educated asshole. Have a nice day sir.""

Another not so fine example of "America's Greatest Generation" that should not be behind the wheel of a mass of steel.

I wouldn't say it's a big pet peeve, but speaking of smoking, once in awhile I run by this guy waiting for the bus in the morning, and several times now he's said "got a cigarette?" and laughs to himself. Weird. I think about buying a pack just so I can stop and give him one next time he asks.

I just loved all of these. And agree with just about all of them.

My personal number one pet peeve are those people that walk in groups and take up the whole path. And the place I normally run at has a sign every 200 metres that rule number one is "Do not walk more than 2 abreast." gah!

And my second pet peeve are those people that don't leash their dogs, the dog gets really close to you and you have to worry about it chasing you or you hitting it while running.

Luckily, I have never had a problem with cyclist, in Reno it's against the law to ride a bike on the sidewalk or walking/running paths and it is STRICTLY enforced, and so is jay-walking...that always gets me, I received my first $20 ticket for running across the street w/ no crosswalk. UGHH! (of course w/in city limits in the desert paths it doesn't matter).

I hate going to the end of this thread to post my peeve .

I've nearly forgotten what it was...

Mothers who push a baby carrige out in front of you expecting you to take the responsibility for them putting their child in harms way. NICE!! Your child is your responsibility, do not push the carrige into the path of a bicycle/runner and expect them to be responsible for your child's well being

I suspect that the passing out had little to do with breathing in a bit of smoke unless the runner was extremely allergic. I've been running through the smoke of a burning peat fire for weeks now, and it's not done a whole lot to me. I'd guess that a lack of energy and/or water was more to blame, not the cigarette smoke.

That being said, a cross country course is probably not an appropriate venue for lighting up a cigarette.

My biggest annoyance, I think, is the people that find it difficult to stop for pedestrians, myself incluced. I try to map my runs so that most of my route avoids intersections, but I do cross a couple of street. Even with a walk signal, there are those that try to zoom on through and those that actually honk and get huffy over someone daring to be in their way.

I've also got a minor irk about trail blockers, but as I can go around them I don't really mind so much.

So do your part and go back and clean it up! I'm an Asst. Scout Master w/ our local Boy Scout Troop, and we have a regular event, once a month, where we go out and clean sections of road in town.
