Whenever I go out for a run my nose runs too! I used to have this problem only in cold weather. However, now it seems that anytime I run outside my nose starts to run. I swear I need to figure out a way to carry tissues with me. It's that bad. On my last run, I could hardly breathe from all of the phlegm that had formed. I constantly kept having to spit and wipe my nose. Does anyone know of ANYTHING that I can do to make this stop? Please help. Thanks!

I have the same situation. I use paper hankerchieves. I find them convenient and easily disposed in a public trashbin.

They find easily a place in my girdle or my pockets.

I don't know either the root cause of this phenomen but I suppose that it is related to sweating.

This may seem strange but have you tried those breath-right nose strips?

I tried them on a couple of long runs and it seemed to help. The moisture seemed to dry out before I had to blow. I saw a study that says they don't help your lactate threshold but....if they just reduce the number of times I have to blow.....Smile

This is just a shot in the dark, but you could be having allergies. I have had similar problems and found that taking non-sedating antihistamine, like Claritin (generic = loratadine) before I run really helps.  Benadryl (generic = diphenhydramine) works great, too, and is cheaper (but makes you sleepy).

I take a musinex type medicine before my runs and it helps to dry up any crap that is lingering.  You can get the generic for pretty cheap at any grocery store.  That has been helping me a lot.  No side effects for me.  BUT...I still carry the kleenex, just in case! :)

Instead of treating the symtoms, maybe you could try removing mucous forming dairy foods from your diet. I used to wake up in the morning unable to breath until I switched to rice milk and cut out cheese butter and wheat.  Check out Chinese medicine definition of "damp forming foods". Changing my diet has totally transformed my life and left me feeling healthier. Best of luck.
