I was recently introduced to the idea of wearing knee high compression socks during the marathon to help with blood flow and muscle fatigue. Do you wear/have any experience with compression socks? Do they really make a difference during the race and in recovery? If so, what brand do you recommend.

not sure about the socks (although the Globetrotters and Paula Radcliffe seemed to benefit from usuage), but these are a help during training/recoveries:
