I am looking for a scenic run in San Antonio. I am looking to parks and routes on the west side? Any suggestions?

I'm from SA-town, but live in San Diego now. I don't know much about the west side, but when I lived there, my favorite place to train was at Eisenhower Park on the paved trail up to the tower, and even on NW Military out to 1604 and back. Another fav. was Macalister Park on Jones Maltzberger, but I here the rain has been out of control this year, so maybe the trails aren't as nice as they once were.

Good luck!

This is an old thread, but in case someone "runs" across it, dozens if not more than a hundred people can be found Saturday and Sunday mornings at Roger Solers Tri-Sports in Helotes Texas just outside loop 1604 on bandera road. People regularly run out and back on scenic loop and there is often water stations set up.

Although I am now living in Nebraska, ever since I left San Antonio, the place I miss most is Friedrich Wilderness Park. It is sort of hard to find but also has low traffic, nice shade, and is free with ample parking. All paths are trail-running, some of which includes rocks, steady climbs. Check it out at http://www.wildtexas.com/parks/fwp.php

And run a few for me.

Last year in prep for the SA marathon I found the long runs with FLEET FEET were quite scenic and blended neighborhoods, parks, and scenic drives. They run Sunday mornings around 6am. ~ I also concur with Longhorn's assessment of runs that include 1604 & Camp Bullis (Eisenhower Park) except that you only get 0.9 miles of paved trail leading to the hilltop, but plenty of combination of miles leading up to that point. ~ I mapped out about 15 runs last year using the keyword "northside" and then the mileage is added to the name. ~ Hope to see you out there...dark and early to beat the heat!
