Hello all! Nice to have a forum to share with all of you! Anyhow, on to my question...

I give blood as often as I can - usually about three times a year.  I gave last Friday and I've noticed since then I have felt a little sluggish on my runs (14.5 miles on Sunday and a 5 mile speed workout today) and I'm a bit off pace.  I can only attribute my decline to donating blood.  I've never really noticed this before.

My question is this: How long will it take to get back to my old self?  Is this typical?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Hi Aaron I am a blood donor as well and a competitive runner. When you make a doation they take about 400mls of whole blood the body replaces plasma first but the effects can last for up to a week never give blood 2 to 3 weeks before a major event and take it easy for a week after. I read an article about the effects of blood donations and running from a runners world magazine which can be viewed on line at I think www.ruunersworld.co.au or www.runnersworld.com and look at the back issue articles if the web address is wrong just google it. Hope I have been some help
