    If you do this, how do you log your runs in MMR?

    Do you log it as a "walk" then select "walk/jog"?

    Then aren't your calorie results skewed?

    calories aren't too skewed. calories is total time to complete a distance. I think the amount you walk versus the amout you run basically balance out. (that's if I remember my physics from 20 years ago)

    Junkie99 - In theory you are right. If you move mass X distance Y you burn Z calories. Hoewever MMR is using METS to calculate calories (there are other discussions on this subject out there somewhere on the site) which means that they calculate calories burned based on your BMI, the activity you are doing and the time you spend doing it. If you chane the time for a given distance, your calories burned will change as well.

    calorie expenditure is based on the total amount of oxygen that your body consumes. For a reader friendly (not a lot of physiology involved) account of this, check this out:

    well, back to the OP's question. What I found on the internet is that most calorie burned calculators use a constant to determine how many calories it takes to move X pounds over Y distance in Z time. They don't seem differentiate between running and walking.

     If anyone finds something different, let me know :).

    Edit: Using MMR's calorie calculator:

    walk 1 hr @ 5 miles/hour: 593 kcal

    run 1hr @ 5 miles/hour: 593 Kcal

    So I think if you walk/run on and off for 5 miles in 1 hour...your gonna burn around 593 kcal.

    I've gone so far as to create 2 maps, 1 map for the distance I ran, clocked using a stopwatch, and the other of the walk clocked via stopwatch.

    Subtract distance from map A and map B, and you get a calorie count for each. It's a pain though.

    What really bothers me is that there's no "cool down walk" category. That would be very useful. ^^;

     Come to think of it, there has to be a calorie difference between a hard run and an easy run (i.e. I think you would burn more on the hard run); but the calculator doesn't differentiate. Also, The calculator doesn't seem to factor in the humidity either. 82 degrees with a high dew point seems to require twice the effort.
