I'm thinking of getting a new HRM. Has anyone out there used the polar rs200 (or similar) with a MAC? I haven't gotten a straight answer about how easy this will be. I'm sort of interested in being able to upload data, I'm not sure what I'll learn from it but it sounds neat.

I'd also be interested in suggestions for HRM's under $200 US, if you have an opinion. Any feed back on the use of the polar foot pod, sd unit, would also be appreciated.

    thanks for your help

If you have a newer Mac, you can run Windows on it at the same time as OS 10.4 no problem (Windows for Mac is available at any Apple store). While I've never used my HRM on my mac, I'm sure it would be possible to use the Widows-based HRM application on your Mac in the Windows operating system. Probably not much help, but food for thought!

The Garmin Forerunner 305 is now under $200 (just got one for my Brother in Law on Amazon of $196).  I have one and it works with my Mac no problem.

I LOVE IT and wouldn't run w/out one now.  The GPS mapping functionality is awesome to have in addition to the HRM.

    Thanks for the input, Carolina...

I have been thinking about getting a rs200 as well.  I'd still like to know if anyone has experience using one with a Mac?  (I don't have a dual processor mac, so I don't want to run a windows boot-up)  So, Mac users out there?...

    Thanks in advance!

GPS on the iPhones are surprisingly accurate and very convenient! There are free and paid apps you can down load. I like Running Gypsy but have recently switched over to MapMyRun for its GPS capabilities!

Thanks Jen.  But no luck here.  I've got an iPhone and tried both programs and neither have worked for me.  Not sure if it's my coverage or user error.  Both times, the program quit and the time/distance wasn't accurate...

Did you have to set up the program to run?  (ie, did you have to change any settings?)

    thanks again for any input

    try http://www.ismarttrain.com/

I haven't tried it (I use parallels to boot into windows to use the Polar provided software.)

good luck - if you try it, would you mind coming back and sharing your experience?

I just gave the ismarttrain program a try.

worked great!  I don't even run a dual boot-up.  the sonic link worked the first time.

not sure if i can splurge to buy the program though.  we'll see...

I use the Polar 725x on my MacBook Pro with great success.  All it takes is a Virtual Environment such as Parallels running Windows and a Polar IrDA USB.  I even upload the files to PolarPersonalTrainer at times.

I have also used the Iphone App to track my route via GPS with mixed results.  It appears that the MMR Iphone App does not gracefully recover from lost connections which if you are iPhone ATT customer you will drop connections at times.

Here is one of my lunch rides using the MMR iPhone app (http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ca/irvine/891376372724).
