HI all,

I'm a Nordic Walking instructor in Eugene OR and recommend this site to our students to find walks with the mileages and characteristics they want.

So, if other walkers head out our way, check the "walking" routes in and around Eugene, as the ones so marked will be great for Nordic Walkers using poles! That means reasonably wide sidewalks or paths, not too much traffic, lots of parks and other Nordic Walkers!

Well at lest they do here in the UAE.

Can ANYONE enlighten me as to where (if anywhere) I can put my hands on a Garmin 405cx 305 - whatever. I live in Abu Dhabi UAE but am in Dubai twice a week as well.

So far I have made phonecalls to retail stores- have covered, without exageration, 100's of kilometres hunting spurious information on where they might be stocked.

3 emails so far to the local distributors listed on the garmin website - no response.

Please, if anyone knows could they respond?

My Suunto T3 has finally died. It's been a great watch, but there's NO suunto action here in the desert.

Thanks in advance.

Now.

They have in stock a 405 and a 310.

Which is the better sports thingy and why? Essentially what would you buy?

I am aware that needs differ, so completely subjective opinions are welcome.

I'll be buying one or the other tomorrow, just need some pushing in one direction or the other.

If they only had one of them in stock, I'd have been happy with either.

I have a Garmin 205 ... and I have a Nokia phone with their Sporttracker software.

The Garmin is easier to wear etc, but I like the phone cos the display is colour and much clearer.

BUT why do they often disagree over the distance covered? The Garmin seems more consistent, if I run the same 5mile route. BUT the Nokia will one day say I've run 4.9 miles and other day say its 5.2miles.

Which is more accurate and reliable?

I have been training for my second marathon, which is in a little over 2 weeks and have never had any knee pain before. However, two weeks ago, I was traveling and had to do my 18 mile run in a different area with very hilly roads. I have been doing small hills normally, but these hills were much larger and throughout the run. I felt fine then, and for the next week.

However, nn my long run last week (12 miles) I began to notice knee pain at mile 10. I did one run during the week and after 2 miles my knee was hurting again.

The pain is right above my patella, where my quads attach and I am pretty sure it is tendinitis. I have been icing it and taking anti-inflammatories, but am unsure as to how to continue my training for the marathon.

I am supposed to run 14 miles tomorrow and 8 next weekend ,as my last long run, before the marathon the following week. I am not going to do the 14 mile run tomorrow because I tried to run 2 miles today on the treadmill, with a knee brace on, and it still hurt (not has painful though).

My question is.....do I rest it for a week? or even 2? should i still run the marathon? I am going to make a Dr. appt next week, but would love to hear other runner's opinions.

Thanks so much for your help!

For us northern hemisphere folks fall has arrived and with it have come cooler temps and fading daylight hours. Many of us try to extend our cycling season through the months of October, November and December (especially if you are racing cyclocross like me ). Riding in the fall definitely poses unique challenges--changing temperatures, lowlight conditions, winds, wet leaves, etc. Let's share some tips about how to combat the change of the seasons and extend the cycling season.

I will get us started:

Train in the AM from 7am until 8 or 8:30. You can enjoy the sunrise; knock out your training early in the day; and avoid trying to squeeze in a ride post work in the darkness!

Private routes are NOT private - leaked through Facebook App.

I have just discovered that keeping a route private does nothing to protect your privacy (a major concern if your routes start or end at your house, for example).

Perhaps the route doesn't show up in public lists or searches, but if you have the URL to a route, Private or not, you can see it - even if you're not logged in.

Where this becomes evident is if you have the Facebook App linked to your account and enable it to show your routes. ALL routes - Public OR Private - are shown in the box and are linked from there.

Again, Public or Private, if some one has the URL to your route (e.g it was once public and you made it private OR it gets leaked through Facebook), they can see it. The silly part is that right there it TELLS you it's a Private route, yet there you are, looking at it.

PLEASE address this ASAP!

 Hi Guys,

I am the creator of the Printed Maps system that you all know and love (hopefully), and am currently in the process of improving the looks and performance of this system. We have a number of exciting new features planned and are making great progress on creating a system that's more usable and user friendly, but we need your help!

If you have any ideas on how we can improve, please let us know. No idea is too crazy, and some of our upcoming features include:
- Printing Multiple Routes on One Map
- Branding Routes (e.g. your name, your team, your store, etc)
- Poster Sized Printed Maps (under special licensing)
- Easy (and inexpensive!) Purchasing of Bulk Maps
- Having Route Color Match Gradient
- More Readable Markers
- Better Space Usage
- Bigger & More Legible Font Sizes
- Bigger Map Sizes
- Fully Customizable Colors
- Faster Printed Map Generation (less waiting!)

Miss something you wanted to see? Let us know!

I have plotted all 22 routes for both events and added route notes to them. I cannot see any way I can add them all together into one large route. It's taken me months to plot the routes and I don't have the time to do them again for one large route. Is there anyway I can just add the routes to each other?

G'day

In my blog I have a couple of maps embedded. One here works fine and the code in my WordPress blog is as follows:

[iframe http://js.mapmyfitness.com/embed/blogview.html?r=db1e071fc0382decb3f35758f5bfc0bc&amp;u=m&amp;t=route 500 350]<a href="http://www.mapmyfitness.com/ride/australia/fremantle/297753634960">Bike Force Fremantle 3.0 Group Ride</a>
<a href="http://www.mapmyfitness.com/find-ride/australia/fremantle">Find more Bike Rides in Fremantle, Australia</a>

However, my latest posting with a map which can be found here, has a problem with the route not displaying.

The WordPress code is as follows:

[iframe http://js.mapmyfitness.com/embed/blogview.html?r=7548ed98e7e99b04716f6ab6e8a40da7&amp;u=m&amp;t=route 500 350]<a href="http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/australia/midland,-western-australia/240124072015791480">Bike Force Fremantle Group 3 Hills Ride</a>
<a href="http://www.mapmyride.com/find-ride/australia/midland,-western-australia">Find more Bike Rides in Midland, Western Australia, Australia</a>

I have fiddled with the code trying some small variations but can't see what is wrong. I have also contacted MapMyRide but have not had a response.

Can anyone shed any light on what might be wrong?

Thanks

Andrew

I've been cycling for a few months now and I swallowed my first gnat yesterday. A few minutes later a very large dragonfly hit me on the lens of my goggles. I thought it was nice that it wasn't the dragonfly that went into my mouth. I know my bug story has to be pretty lame compared to some of you who have been riding longer. I'd like to hear your bug story so we can all laugh at your expense ;^).

I seem to be unable to save any runs. I have tried turning the airplane mode on so it is just working off WiFi which doesn't help. It just keeps saying, "An error occurred while saveing. Please make sure you have correct network access, and have the correct login credentials set. etc, etc"

I am able to login but as yet cannot save anything. Any tips?
