Route Type: Run

description: This run takes you along the beach and then out onto the jetty that forms the downtown marina. You'll pass Shoreline Village and get a close up view of the RMS Queen Mary in Rainbow Harbor. First step is getting to your starting point. Park your car on Paloma Avenue, near Ocean, and cross the street onto Bluff Park. Head east across the park until you come to a stairway. The stairway will take you down onto the beach and the bike path. Opposite the foot of the stairs are public restrooms. This will serve as your start/finish line. Head west along the bike path. The bike path will end at a public parking lot. Continue straight west across the parking lot until you again hook up with the bike path. Where the bike path curves you'll come to another parking lot. Part of the parking lot is fenced off for construction equipment. Continuing west, follow the fencing until it ends, then turn south. You be able to pick up the bike path again. Turn west on the bike path and go until you hit the jetty. Then proceed south and east along the bike path on the jetty until the path ends. Retrace your steps until you return to the finish line at the restrooms opposite the Coronado Avenue stairs.

description: This is my 10K training run that combines aspects of some of the other runs I've listed. Again, start at the corner of Ocean and Paloma Avenues. Head north on Paloma to 1st Avenue and then turn west on 1st. Take 1st to Junipero. Turn south on Junipero and take the hill down to the beach parking lot. Once in the parking lot, head due west to pick up the bike path. Take the bike path to a second parking area. Run along the construction area fencing and when it ends turn south to once again pick up the bike path. Head west once again on the bike path until you run onto the jetty that forms the downtown marina. Take the jetty path south and then east along the marina. When the path ends, retrace your steps. Remember that the Junipero hill has an incline of about 80 feet. Finish at the corner of Ocean and Paloma Avenues.

Long Beach: Ocean Avenue-Sports Arena-Downtown Marina
location: Long Beach, California

distance: 3.28 mi. | Rate Me!Rate Me!Rate Me!Rate Me!Rate Me! ( 0 votes / 215 views)
Route Type: Run

description: This downtown Long Beach run bypasses the aquarium area entirely and concentrates on the arena and downtown marina area. Again, start at the southwest corner of Pine and Ocean Avenues. DO NOT head south on Pine Avenue as in the other runs. Instead, take Ocean east past the Long Beach Performing Arts Center and turn south on Hart Place. Be forewarned that Hart Place is a moderately steep hill. Continue on Hart past Seaside Way and directly into the courtyard of the Long Beach Sports Arena. Once in the courtyard turn east and run towards the arena parking lot. Run across the parking lot to the east gate. You'll be able to run past the barriers onto Shoreline Drive. Cross Shoreline at the crosswalk, then through the parking lot and past a public restroom. You'll then be on the bike path. Head west on the bike path past the boats docked at the downtown Marina and the shops and restaurants at Shoreline Village. Run onto the jetty and head south and then east along the jetty's bike path. While running you'll get a close-up view of RMS Queen Mary and Rainbow Harbor. At the end of the jetty, retrace your steps back through the marina, past the arena, past the performing arts center and back to Pine and Ocean, where you'll complete your run.
