Ymca to Tybee 1 location: Savannah, Georgia distance: 18.60 mi. | ( 0 votes / 160 views) Route Type: Run created by: dlh14115 on 10/28/2007 description: As always, leaving the Ymca on Johnny Mercer is a big pain because of the fast traffic on this road. Bryan Woods is a nice road to run on but there isn't a shoulder so, when cars come toward you, you have to run on the grass which is very soft/mushy (in parts) and there are many ant mounds (so be careful). Hwy 80 is fine because of the wide shoulder but getting onto the bridges on Bull River and the one just past Ft Pulaski are a pain when there is traffic (which is almost always). The cars travelling on hwy 80 go very fast and there the shoulder narrows significantly when you approach these two bridges. Sometimes, I have to wait for the traffic to ease before running up on the bridge and then jumping up on the bridge ledge. The bridge ledge is quite safe.
