description: This is a great route for anyone in the Clarendon/Courthouse area (or Georgetown). From Clarendon, it starts with a 9 block decent to the river, crossing as Memorial Bridge and then down the DC side towards Georgetown. I follow the canal to Key Bridge where I re-cross the river and make the trek up hill back to my neighborhood. It's a doosy coming back and ending on the serious climb up to Clarendon from Rosslyn. If there wasn't as much traffic in Rosslyn I'd give this route a 4 star rating. Other than that, running by the river, the canal, and the activity in DC makes this a great medium run.

Crystal City - Potomac River Run
location: Arlington, Virginia

Route Type: Run

description: This is a nice easy run from Pentagon Row, through Crystal City, up GW Parkway along the river and back. The stretch along the river offers gorgeous views of the city from the VA side. The entire way has sidewalks or paved paths. In Crystal City, there is a tunnel next to the VRE stop at 15th St. and Crystal Drive that takes you underneath the tracks and the Parkway and puts you on the GW running/bike path right next to National Airport. One note: There are no lights for the stretch from National up the river to Lady Bird Johnson Park. I love to run it at night b/c the city view is beautiful when everything is lit up, but be forewarned that if you're not comfortable being alone on a dark path, you might want to stick to daylight or dusk -- it tends to be well trafficked right up until it becomes fully dark.
