London Green Belt Way - Stage 7. 12 miles. St Albans to the Old Cole Green Railway Platform at Letty Green. mostly flat or undulating following the River Ver, Alban Way and Cole Green Way (both disused railway lines and now cycle paths. Starts next to River Ver at bottom of Holywell Hill. After just 0.65 miles climb steps before overhead bridge. At top turn left along cycle track. Follow track (Alban Way, disused railway line) for almost 5 miles to A1(M). Turn right in front of Galleria and over motorway. Then right and down to go thru a subway. Exit subway and straight on to follow path (Alban Way). This crosses a few roads, but obvious. After another 1.5 miles take footbridge over railway. Immediately over footbridge turn left onto path. Follow to end - comes out onto a residential road. Turn right and then second left into Park View. At end go straight on to cycle path. Comes out onto A1000. Stay straight on along pavement to cross one side road from left. Just after this cross A1000 using traffic island. Continue along A1000 and over dual carriageway (A14(T)). Shortly after crossing A14 turn right onto path. Follow path downhill, past Mill Green Mill and straight on along cycle track thru trees and eventually next to A14. At end turn left onto Gypsy Lane. After 0.3 miles and with a brick pillar on each side of lane, turn right along wide track with golf course on right. Just after entering woods, turn right. Follow wide track thru woods and past Golf Tee Box. As wide track turns right, stay left along path into woods. Soon past gate and straight on. After 120 yards and immediately after main path turns right to go downhill (there is a very large tree on your right at this point), turn slightly left / straight on onto narrow path. Within 30m path runs over wooden slats laid into ground. After a short distance another path joins from the left. Go straight on. After a few yards turn right onto narrow path downhill to boulders across stream. Cross stream via boulders and go straight on thru a wooden stile and onto well defined path. This eventually leads past an information board and on to a footbridge over another stream. Cross and go straight on, uphill with field on left (black sheep). At top turn left around field and then left at next point, keeping field to left. At bottom of hill turn right and follow path. After a short distance as path turns left over stream, stay on path to right of stream (some is on wooden elevated walkways). Stay on this path until it comes to a common (do not turn onto any side path). Exit onto Common and turn right following the edge of Common as it keeps veering right. Soon you reach some houses. Continue straight thru houses on footpath crossing over two roads. The path eventually leads to a lane. Turn left along lane (Holwell Hyde Lane)and follow to road (Cole Green Lane). At road turn right, staying on RHS and after 150 yards and just before T-junction, turn right onto Cole Green Way Cycle Path (signed). Follow path (disussed railway) straight on for 1.6 miles to the finish at the disused Cole Green Station. The Cowper Arms Pub is very close to the finish.
