My personal promise

My name is Jay Repetto, I am 53 yrs of age and have not been an avid runner. I did attend the FBI National academy in 2007 and part of our daily training was running trails and at the end of the 10 week school an obstacle course/run which was over 6miles in length. But since then I have not run regulary. My 19 yr old son joined the Army this past spring, and decided to also be trained as a Airborne infantrymen, being such he has been stationed in Italy, and is destined for Afaganistan this winter. TJ on occasion would run with me back when I was training for the FBI academy, and would push me to complete the runs. We would run 3.5 miles and sometimes more. During my time at the academy I would think of him and it would inspire me to complete my runs, which were everyday and varied in lenght from 1.5 miles to 5 or 6 miles. This year when he joined the Army, he too had to run everyday during basic training and then during Airborne training. He came home on leave prior to shipping out to Italy, and we proceeded to run 3.5 miles one day, which I had not done in a long time. TJ stayed with me, when he used to run off and leave me in the dust!, on this occassion he told me he would never leave his battle buddy!. That kinda hit home, as I have been in law enforcement for 28 yrs, and know the meaning of never leaving your buddy behind, etc. Well i struggled on through that run, and he stayed with me the whole time, even though he slowed to a fast walk sometimes. That was the last time that TJ and I had some time togather as he left the next day for Italy. Since that day, I made a personal promise that I would run everyday until he returned home to Georgia. That was August 8th of this year (09) and I've run everyday so far. The lengths vary but the shortest length is 1.5 miles, and the times have varied also. But the motovation stays the same, I hear TJ running beside me and pushing me to finish the run, never leaving my side. I thank him for that and my runs have gotten longer and the times shorter, but I promised myself that I can't stop til he returns, it has become my mission to finish the run.
