I am a renew runner. After 8 years of a sedentary existence I began walking and then biking to work. It's been 9 months of this activity I would like to become a runner. My short-term goal is to complete the Couch to 5K program. After that I would like to consider training for a 10K and half-marathon.
Update as of Thanksgiving 2008: I have now been running since May. I completed the Couch to 5K program in early July and continued to run. I try to run every other day but I usually don't quite make that. Most weeks I run 3 runs. I don't want to run more than every other day because I want to prevent over-use injuries that would keep me from running at all.
All this being said, I now run 5 miles when I run at a pace about 8 minutes and 15 seconds per mile. I am going to allow my pace to naturally speed up, meaning I am not going to train for increasing my pace. At least not in the immediate future. I am going to focus on distance. However, I would eventually like to run a sub-7 pace...
