Mushroom Rock Hike in Carbondale
On the North side of highway 82, park in the dirt parking lot across from 133 which leads to Carbondale. Then walk up the road (keep your dogs leashed, for cars can drive here), and take the first trail on your left. Then, each time the path forks, keep to the left... this will take you up the Mushroom Rock path. Starts with a rather mellow climb, then steepens up with red basalt steps that will end up taking you for a 800 feet elevation gain. A word of warning... make sure you have your dogs under good voice control: you hike up along a cliff almost the entire way. It is well worth it though. One gets beautiful views of Mount Sopris, Carbondale, the back of Basalt Mountain and all the way up valley - a 2.1 mi hiking route in Carbondale, Colorado
