Whilst Google maps suffices for anything on-road it does not show footpaths or tracks. As soon as you venture offroad (heavens forbid!) you are stuffed - unless you can pick up your path from the satellite images.

The UK is blessed with a fantastic map making agency - namely the Ordnance Survey (OS) and I'm sure other countries have equivalent agencies. When can we expect to be able chart our progress as accurately off-road as well as on-road?

I personally think it would be greatly beneficial to add a calorie tracker to the daily log for maintaining a log of foods eaten. It would be great if it were in a database format, so by picking the foods and quantity, the database could/would give us the calories for that item.

If we had this ability, then after each meal, we could input our foods and by the end of the day the tracker would have calculated our intake so that we can compare it against our training to see whether or not we are positive or negative. It would greatly help those who are trying to limit their intake to lose a few pounds.

Thanks.

While putting in some back dated info from another website to maymyrun I started thinking it would be nice to have the swimming/laps distance done as laps or perhaps an additional input etc.

This would then allow for mins / lap as a pace.

It might seem a bit of a bizarre combination, but I'd like to see an option to use kg and miles as my preferred units (at present, the options are imperial, metric, or hybrid lb/km).

I'm sure I'm not the only Englishman never to use lb. Even when imperial weights are used - which is less and less often because of European influence - they'd be combined stones/lb/oz rather than just pounds. Would be far easier to allow a combination of miles for distance and kilos for weight.

So, with a 2 week holiday and limited net access coming up, I've been looking at GPS handhelds

Do any of them allow you to save a few rides/walks etc. to upload later?
I was looking at the Garmin 300, 400 or 550-would these offer similar facilities as an iPhone, or would they allow the 'saving' of a weeks worth before needing to upload?

Both of these have to do with getting a good elevation record from a route with MapMyRide:

1) Allow a user-selectable maximum distance between points when using "Follow Roads". If this works the way I think it does, then elevation changes on a perfectly straight section of road won't be noted. In particular you won't get a point at the bottom or top of a climb unless the road happens to curve at those points. Or - perhaps less trouble, make "Follow Roads" add a point at any significant elevation change.

2) Bump up the number of significant figures in the CSV output for distance/elevation. As it stands now, the error in distance between 2 consecutive points can be up to 52.8 feet for US units.

I've been trying to back out % grade information from your CSV output, but the results I'm getting are nonsense. If I use Follow Roads only, then a hill that I know to have greater than a 10% grade shows up as about a 3% grade because of #1. If instead I manually click points on that hill, I get wild fluctuations in grade because of the lack of precision in the distance - anywhere from 0% to 26%.

Basically i have these devices, Garmin Forerunner 50 and Nokia 5800 express music with nokia sport tracker software.

I can export .tcx file from garmin and .kml file from nokia.

I tried to import my run first from garmin in http://www.mapmyrun.com/edit_workout_import
It worked ok but since it's only heart rate i wanted to import map data from my nokia and did that by clicking the link in "Workout Route: No Route! Map this Workout!"
I imported the route with "new route -> import route" and selected my .kml file, and then saved the route.

In the next page "http://www.mapmyrun.com/edit_workout" I expected the site to calculate burned calories and the distance but they are zeroed.

And after saving from there, the http://www.mapmyrun.com/view_workout page still doesn't show the map in my workout.

It would be great to be able to use these to devices together :)
Is this possible?

This might not be that useful for most users, but I know I'd love it:

Once a route has been mapped, and the elevation displayed for that route, it would be neat if the user could mouse-over the elevation display and have the corresponding point on the map appear (perhaps as a red dot or something).

That way, you'd know exactly where on your route that big climb is coming.

Hi,

I love MapMyRun and it has really re-energized my fitness training. However unless I've not found them, the "SEARCH FOR RUNS" features could use a few improvements. Today it is moderately useful as one either gets 0 matches or is overwhelmed by too many matches with no further drill-down tools.

What I'd like to see:

More criteria for search

- ex distance range (all runs between 7 and 12 k)

- search on run / hike / bike... If I'm running, I don't care for a 120km cycle route (and vis versa)

- search on the tags that one applies to the route when creating it (Park, Flat, Hilly, etc...)

- *** SEARCH / RESULTS ON A MAP! ***This should be possible with GoogleMaps. Why not Map all the starting points of the runs ? That makes it much easier to find a run close to where I am / where I will be without knowing what location/name the route creator chose.

- Ability to sort and refine results. Sort ascending/descending on all criteria.[update - this is possible on the existing criteria by clicking on the "column head". Two little triangles for "up"/"down" would make it clearer though...] Show most popular. Show most recently entered into a training log.

- etc...

Anybody else thinks the search function could use an energy bar?

Is there a way to get a display or csv file which logs against each run the distance, time/duration speed, (even elevation range) as well as calories. Calories are incidentals when you are training , you want to know whether your speed is improving over time and how often you have doen fast runs and if you are getting quicker.

Being able to plot the various elements on a graph would be even more impressive. Can it be done on the site?

Is there a way to save split times in mapmyrun.com? Splitting the full track into multiple smaller ones wouldn't give me the desired outcome, since I then wouldn't be able to compare times of the full track.

Hi,

Now we have the ability to track multiple pieces of gear it would be great if we could create different groups of gear. So you have a group of items, helmet/bike/shoe/tyre combo for training and a different group for racing /off road etc. This would be easier than having to tick all the different pieces each time you use them. You could create groups of gear for the common things you use together.

What do you think?
