Hello All! I will be running my first half marathon this weekend and am very anxious about what to wear. The run begins at 8:00 a.m. and the high for the day is 51 degrees with an overnight low the previous night of 40 degrees. I don't want to over-dress but am worried about being too cold. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks! :)

With temps in the 40's, I usually wear shorts, a long sleeve running shirt (like one from Brooks), some lightweight gloves and an ear warmer.  Once I get running, that's usually plenty (assuming no rain).  Prior to the start though, it's useful to have some long pants and/or a long sleeve jacket.  It's ideal when you can have a non-runner near the start so you can pass off the jacket and pants just prior to the start.  If that's not possible (no non-runner friend, huge starting group, etc.), you can go the "disposable" route.  e.g. use a trash bag for a jacket and toss it just before you go.  If you buy cheap cotton gloves, you can toss those at a water station trash can if you are too warm later.

For me the 40s are still shorts and a short sleeve shirt while running.  You'll be cold waiting around but once the race begins you'll warm up.  Bring an old toss away shirt and perhaps old socks to wear on your hands before the race begins.  Once you warm up toss them both.  Many times those old clothes are collected and given to charity.  If it is rainy, cut a hole in a big garbage bag for your head and arms.  Toss right before the gun goes off.  By the way, that sounds like the weather report for the BAA half tomorrow.  You from the Boston area?  Good luck with your half wherever it may be!!!!
