My family is doing a virtual walk across Iowa this year. That means we are each committing to walk approximately 509 miles. We have defined the route which will take us through many of the towns we have associations with. It would be neat if after each group member enters their mileage, a figurine of that person would be shown as they are making progress across the state. This would also allow other group members to visually see where everyone is along the route.
Another idea would be if there is a way we could total our mileage to do a walk across the U.S. It would be neat to have a group icon that moves across the country.
What a fabulous idea! I am going to suggest that to my coaching clients! It sure will provide a great incentive to them! Let me know how it works with the figurines on a map to track progress. I will check back to see what you found out.
I have always wanted to do a ride across the US on my bike.. but a virtual tracker would be awesome.. I would love it. with a count up,remaining miles, virtual location on a set route. It could be incorporated in the new goals section as a challenge.
I like the idea of having it be in a group as well, single would work for my needs but i could see rallying people at work to achieve a goal if we could do it together. As a website we could ride/walk around the earth!!
I love your idea for a group virtual ride/run that shows the little icons where everyone is!
There are several people doing virtual rides or runs. Check out the thread in the Lobby titled "Virtual Trip Across US". Here's my virtual route in progress:
I am doing this with a viritual walk across Tennessee. I take each 30 day individual challenge and tie it to this walk. For example in March I set my goal of 90 miles to go from the Mississippi river at Memphis to Jackson TN. This month my 90 mile challenge will take me from Jackson to Nashville. One thing I have done to help this visualization was to start a map at at the end of March which drew a route from Memphis to Jackson. This month I will go to that same map and revise it, adding my April mile s which will show exactly how far I have gone on an actual state map. This visualization has really worked for me.
