Hi, im a new member to the site but by no means a new runner (unfortunately for me). Im currently serving in the British Army thus no stranger to long, fast, hilly runs accompanied by torrential rain. However owing to a an unfortunate horse riding accident i have been forced to neglect my physical fitness due to being forced to go "on the sick". I have, as of last week attempted, with the encouragement of my physio and PT staff, short treadmill sessions in the gym. My problem is that i cant believe how far my overall fitness has plummeted and am finding even short 20-25 minute sessions quite hard going.

Whilst i am taking on board what the PT staff have been telling me any tips for a faster recovery of stamina from the running community would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers easy.

    Hi!

I'm by no means an expert, but this past fall when trying to bet back in shape from an injury I found that (though tedious) doing a running/walking routine helped me get in longer workouts when i was still out of shape.  Something like I'd try running 2 min, walking 1 min, running 2 etc. (or whatever time works for you) and at first it really drove me nuts because I just wanted to push myself harder to be back in shape, but it allowed me to progress without re-injuring myself, and now i'm back to being able to run 10+ miles no problem.  ( you were in shape before, so I bet you'll be surprised how quickly it will come back, just hang in there!)

Sounds good, i have been trying to push myself too hard and the fact that im not up to standard is frustrating me. Hopefully this method will help me to be able to train longer.

    Thanks for the advice.
