Just wondering what anyone thought about which would be better a suunto t3 or a timex bodylink.  I have been running for about 8-9 months and I have finally decided to use a HR monitor.  I want to purchase one of these but unsure of which would be better.  Also as far as distance which do you prefer a foot pod or GPS system, I live in Arkansas and it is mostly open where I run.

I have the Timex Bodylink (Trailrunner) and I love it.  As long as you don't mind wearing something on your arm, it's accurate (very), holds its signal very well, and provides lots of good info.  Get the optional data recorder if you're keen on tracking data for training purposes.

I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Hi I got a suunto t3 last September and now never run without it. | find it excellent, particularly for its real time information(and it looks quite good too). I didn't get a foot pod, but am planning to get one this month. I did quite a lot of research before choosing the Suunto, but mainly comparing the Suunto and a number of polar adn Nike models. I am not familiar with the timex bodylink. Hope you're not too confused now!

i am a fairly new runner but i got the suunto t3 with heart rate monitor, foot pod, and pc pod. The heart rate stuff is great but my main reason for buying it was for the foot pod. I can go any where and know exactly how far i have gone. I also prefer the foot pod over the gps. Simply because i go to the gym ever now and again and run on the treadmill. With a calculate how far you gone because you staying in the same spot. I mean its not that big of a deal because the treadmill tells you how far but i like to have all my stats together on my computer and my watch. Either way i love the watch and its functionality is great. It does a ton.

I have the T3 and I have to say it's great! Unfortunately all aditional features cost more cash so you have to add that in to the over all cost and weigh it up.  Foot pod is around £60, bike pod £30, and I think the PC link thing is close to £100.  Some HR monitors have a PC link in the price.

When you add that all up, the Suunto is expensive, but if you dont need all the add ons, it's a great watch, although you just have to look at it and it will scratch!

I'm getting the foodpod soon, and I have the bike pod which I think is great. The only problem is the unit is fixed to your bike and is not quick release meaning it's just a matter of time before it gets pinched.

I know all we've done is made your decision even more difficult, but all I'll say is if you go for the T3, you wont regret it.

Oh, finally, one other major pain with the T3 is that no matter what mode you leave the watch in, if you stick it in your bag you will go to use it next time only to realise it's been running, you've done about 50laps and that really screws with the built in log book and totals.  A lock feature like you get on mobiles would be a good addition Frown

I have the Timex Speed + Distance GPS system along with the data logger and I absolutely love it. The main advantage the GPS has is that it doesn't care if I am running or if I am just out for a casual hike, the GPS will always be accurate. I can also go for a bike ride, kayaking, skiing/snowboarding or just about anything else and still be able to get stats. Another great feature is that, after a simple conversion, I can upload my routs to this site and share them with my friends. This is especially beneficial when mountain biking through uncharted areas. I don't have the heart rate monitor for mine, but it could be added and tracked by the data logger. I hope this helps.
