    Hi everyone,

Before I ask my question, I'll give a bit of a background.  I just started back running about 5-6 months ago...I'm running a marathon this weekend.  In my long runs, I've averaged about a 9 min mile, so I'm good for the marathon.  However, my goal now is to train summer/fall and run another in Dec and try to qualify for Boston this winter.

So, here's my question.  I have some b-day money and was thinking of getting an iPod nano and the Nike+ sensor or possibly the Forerunner 305/405.  I like the idea of the GPS time tracking to know exactly my distance/pace, but I hear the Nike+ can be pretty close as well.  And, then I thought about doing Heart-rate training, but didn't know how effective that would be with this longer training as I know what I really need to do is just run.  I have another MP3 player, but podcasts are hard to get on it (just tedious more than anything).

     Thoughts?

My opinion?  There's no comparison between the two.  I have problems with my Nike+, in that the faster I go, the slower it reports my run (longer strides, etc), and recalibrating it doesn't seem to help at all.  The weakness in the 305/405 is that it seems to over-report altitude changes, using the real-time pacing seems too inaccurate, and the smart monitoring is too slow (cuts too many corners if the route is urban), but moving to 1-sec monitoring is enough for a marathon, and using lap pace instead of current pace is more realistic for the pace I'm running anyway (like, do i really care if I'm going faster downhill and slower uphill, or is it about my overall pace).  I own both, and no longer use the Nike, buy the Forerunner and enjoy it!
