    Hi

I am about to buy a road bike (pinarello Fp2) via the internet from the states.

The price is 1000 euro cheaper in the states. I plan to have it shipped to my brother in Boston and he will bring it home with him in a few weeks.

Have ye guys any tips with regard to buying a bike over the net, how to transport it on a plane safely, and how do i size myself properly for the bike. The guy in the local shop here is slow to size me, unless i pay a deposit first-he knows what i'm up to??

    Any advice appreciated

    John

When buying a bike on the net, make sure the seller you are buying from is reputable. Check around the different cycling forums and see what people have said about the seller you are looking at.

I don't know much about transportation on a plane, I don't think it would be too difficult, just make sure that the bike is either a.) professionally packed (costs $50-$150 USD) or b.) is secured in a hardcover travel case. I would call (or have your brother call) and see what kind of restrictions the particular airline has about shipping additional items.

There are many different ways to size yourself for a bike. Obviously, the best is to go get it done professionally at a bike shop. However, as you have found out, most shops do not like doing that without you committing to buy a bike first. The other ways you can discover for yourself on google or something, they just involve different types of measurements.
