    Hi All,

I was after some advice with regards to Marathon training, I last completed the London Marathon in 2002 and have done very little long distance running since.

I do run various 10k runs for charity etc, but I'm looking for a programme that will assist me for my place in the 2008 London Marathon.

Due to work I can only realistically run 3-4 times a week, can anyone suggest a quality programme as there are so many ?

     Kind regards

    Mark.

    Mark,

I'm training for my first half marathon and run 4 days a week using a plan from Rick Morris (the plan technically calls for 5 days a week, but I only have time for 4).  He has training plans for all distances, from 5Ks to marathons.  You may save a free copy of a plan from the website, or may purchase comprehensive and specific training plans.  http://www.runningplanet.com/training/marathon-training.html

I've been a recreational runner for several years and never managed to break the 5k "wall" until I started this plan.  I just finished a 10k and will run the half marathon in a few weeks.  I'm very pleased Smile

     Good luck!

    Erin

Jeff Galloway is known for making quality programs for low mileage people who just want to complete the marathon. I honestly cannot remember what they look like, but from everything I've heard/read its a good schedule.

I'd say, google Jeff Galloway and see what you can find. I bet if you find something that meets your scheduling needs, you can adjust it in such a way that will help your placing during the marathon.

Try www.furman.edu/FIRST.  The FIRST marathon program includes three workouts per week, a speed workout, a tempo run, and a long run.
