I've been running for 4 months now (on and off again over the last 7 years) and I've recently noticed that my big toes have calluses - and are almost numb.  Has any one ever experienced this?  I am not putting alot of mileage on my feet (12 miles weekly) at this point, and I intend on doing a 10k sooner than later.  My general practictioner has no advice...other than to put lotion on them.

Pamper your feet and get a pedicure every once in a while.  They'll scruuuuuuuub 'em down.  Sometimes they even use a razor to cut off the excess skin.

I personally like having my callouses; make me feel like I have more "battle scars" or something.  lol  They don't hurt or get in the way or affect my training, so I figure "no harm, no foul".

You need to purchase "Ped Egg". It's a callouses remover. Works wonders with mine. Sounds strange, but it's like a cheese grater. Very sharp so you have to be careful that you don't take too much off. You can get them at Target, Walgreens or Walmart! (around $10) Get those feet pretty in your summer sandals!! Good Luck

Or yeah!  That thing!  It kind of creeps me out, though.  I haven't tried it yet.

Yep, calluses are common, the one time I went to a podiatrist and had them cut off, I ended up with blisters in their place within a week. I figure that my body is building them up for a reason, protection, why not just leave em alone.

Sometimes I just trim my with nail clippers and then use a pumice stone to smooth them out.  They are sometimes a little tender if I cut away too much, but they definitely help protect my feet from the wear and tear of training!

In sum: Soak and use a pumice stone... it'll smooth them out and make them look nicer!  (And being a Mary Kay consultant, I also like to use the Satin Hands stuff on them!!  It makes a wonderful exfoliating massage!)
