Underwear and socks, just once, but sports bras, running pants and shirts... up to a month.  It may sound gross but I never sweat - I think it's because I hardly ever drink water so I'm always too dehydrated to sweat.  In fact I used to go running with a co-worker on our lunch break and when we got back everyone would ask what I'd been doing while she was running - I always looked like I'd just been lounging around with a stopwatch timing her or something.  No-one could believe I'd just run 6 miles.  And the crazy thing is that it's not like I'm even that fit or anything.  In fact maybe that's my secret - running really slowly??

    Hey Kevin,

Assuming that your stuff is quick-dry fabric, try rinsing it out in the sink, wringing it out, and hanging it on a chair to dry.  I even do this with my (lightly padded & more moisture-retentive) jog bras & they are dry the next day.  It is easier on your clothes than machine washing, and easier on your friends than walking around smelling like you sleep under a bridge.  Plus, it's a "green" thing to do.

Next to skin items like socks, undies, bra I wash after each run, but shirt and shorts can usually last a week depending how bad I sweat.  But never put sports bras (or any bra, compression short, swimsuit, etc) through the dryer, it ruins the elasticity.

You reusers are CRAZY and gross. Laughing  Er, uh or maybe I'm the gross one cuz I sweat like a monkey in a greenhouse, trust me it happens.  So I guess it's safe to say I wash after every use.  Sometimes I wash twice after every use, ha just kidding.  But seriously I have a couple of shirts that didn't get washed for a few days after a run and now they can't get clean at all, ever, so I don't know how you stinkies do it...

    Hey all,

win detergent works for my racing kits. go to www.windetergent.com I used this on my hockey gear and it got rid of the odor embedded in the fabric, but I have washed it after any game, training or race. That is the key.

I wish I could afford to wash everything every time, but alas I do not. I probably go 2-3 uses before washing. I guess I'm lucky I inhereted an almost unimmaginable deficit in the sweat department. I almost NEVER sweat no matter how hard I work. I can go for intense rides where the whole group is sweating buckets and I'm not the least bit shiney.

I only wear my shirt, pants, and socks once.  They are soaking wet and would still be wet (and smelly) the next day. From past races, I have plenty of work out shirts and enough shorts to wash once per week.  In fact, I've collected enough stuff that I have a separate dresser justfor running gear.

I change my shirt after every workout, but use my shorts and bra several times - dependent also on how much I sweat.

I don't wash my sports stuff seperately, but every 2 - 4 washes, I add special disinfectant detergant to my washing detergant. It's not expensive, but very useful and you just put it into the fabric softener section. I realized that your clothes don't start to stink anymore. (I also do that with my underwear once in a while).

No wonder my wife and kids are mad at me!

Once a week for me --4-5 runs before I wash everything.  In the summers, I jump in the lake after runs, so that counts as a rinse.

I always ask my kids if they want a sweaty hug when I get done.  It must be the smell that turns them away!

Until I simply cannot bear it anymore :)

Usually takes about a week. I have three sets, rotate through the days...say, 4 or five workouts apiece.

I figure, I'm already getting sweaty, why should I wase the water washing them a lot? Also, I'm notoriously lazy lol

for me it really just depends, if I go out for a short run, then I will re-wear the shorts and shirt again. If it's my Army PT's on the other hand, I will go 3 or 4 days before I change to a new set...gross I know, but I got used to it while I was in iraq this go around...

As a cyclist you need to wash your gear after each ride... otherwise no one will ride with you (and you will get all kinds of nasty rashes - or so I have heard) Wink

I have to say that shorts get washed maybe every 1-2 runs, running pants in the winter once a month or when I remember, shirts can go twice before they really smell, now if there is a sweat ring that is a seperate issue and that gets washed before another use, you can't look smelly. My socks should probably never be worn again after a run, they get washed right away before my family suffers.  I am probably a little or a lot gross but I can't stand washing things just to get them all disgusting again.

I try to get at least three runs in for each set of shirt/shorts before washing them, which is easy in the winter.  I still haven't washed my winter-weather tights though <blush>, but they don't smell yet.   More washing happens in the summer though--more sweat and higher chances of stink.  I can't imagine washing my gear after every run--I'd have to run naked in between!

I have to wash everything after every use...but I only do laundry once a week.

I've gotten stuck in the wake of odor behind the guy who wears a dirty shirt on race day.

    That's nasty!

It's a grimm gym experience when you can smell the other guy from across the room.

Once only for tees, underwear and socks. Shorts/jogging pants, from one to three depending on how sweaty I got.

I just joined a gym where I walk in the door and they hand you a pair of shorts and a t-shirt for working out. I like my own clothes, but I have to say, I am really enjoying not having the laundry to do! Instead of a pair of shorts and a shirt each day to wash, I only have socks, underwear and sports bra! I can never wear my stuff more than once, so I always had so much laundry! When it warms up and I am running outside more, I will miss the "free" gym clothes! :)

once for everything even if its just a 45 minute run. Have been known to wear kit more than once if i've not got any other stuff clean.

With the people who rinse out in the sink..... how hard is it to stick a bit of detergent in there? most sports clothing washes really easily so there's no excuse.

running with someone who smells is not fun.....

Am I the only one? When I get in from a run I kick off shoes and socks and everything else gets in the shower with me; top, bra, shorts wash them and me and peel and rinse and drip dry. Relatively environmentally friendly process, I thought. Otherwise it's a little pile of running kit all on its own, all at once on a Saturday morning. Think of all the bacteria that accumulates in the creases of your running kit and then rubbing that all over yourself again and again. Yuck! When we ran the Houston marathon there were at least two guys wearing nasty kit - it was so bad *everyone* around was avoiding being near or behind them and even the hoopla noticed it. Gross, gross, gross.

Um... until they start to smell??

That's not as bad as it sounds. Honest! EmbarassedI'm only a newbie at running, so at the moment, I'm only out for 30 minutes three times a week. When I build up to longer runs and start to sweat more, I'll wash my kit more.
