How many times do you wear a sports bra or gym shirt before washing it?
-KevinSocks, underwears, and shirts all get washed after first wear.
I wash after every use too. I'm a puddle at the end of a workout.
Wear it once!!
So, the washing gets accounted for in the carbon footprint calcs on the website does it?!
Cotton / manmade underware once for sure - even if not riding! But have a merino wool shirt worn next to skin can go for weeks without washing / smelling. man made cycling shirts twice max ! Great for winter, but not so cool in summer!
nice thinking about washing versus carbon footprint. I was just suprised as I was talking to some friends and learned that sports bras get less washing attention that you might think! I'm definitely a one-workout, one-shirt man. Shorts may survive a couple workouts...

nice know i'm not the only one who reuses my workout clothes - i usually reuse two or three times before they hit clean water.
I sweat too much, and my sports bra gets nasty. So I will hand wash it in the bathroom sink with a little soap, rinse and hang it to dry.
Wow,
I thought I was a grub becos I only wash mine after every coupla runs. Glad I'm not the only one.
I wear mine two or three times before I wash them, shirts too because I walk out side, and it's cold who's gonna know LOL it's all good, I love walking and I want to do more!!
oh and about two or three times for my walking pants/shorts too, after that I gotta wash em!!
Take Care
Happy New Year
I usually wash my cycling shorts, sports bra and jersey via the shower method (jump in with them on, take them off and wash them with antibacterial soap) once, after the second time, they go into the wash in the delicate cycle. And I NEVER put the clothes in the dryer as it's not good for the shorts or the elasticity of the sports bra.
Like Mark, I thought this was a trick question. Apparently not!
Just once for me. I hand-wash everything - throw them in a bit of water with detergent to soak as soon as I take them off, and them wash them out before I go to bed. Oh, and I never put them in the dryer, maybe that helps with longevity.
Some peoples responses explains the funky smells in the gym though. 2 1/2 weeks - EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWW!
My running/swim shorts - usually twice.
Shirts - only once!
Socks - only once!
I've found that after a few washes, the synthetic fabrics will start smelling even if I wash it after each outing. Usually after 15 or so washes, the top will just smell all the time. I've found that by soaking the top in a cup of white vinegar for a few hours before washing in the machine with normal clothes will 'reset' the fabric, and I can wash conventionally with other clothes for another 15 or so washes. Be warned - for my gloves, it doesn't work so well, with a mix of synthetic and natural fabrics - it will make the suede lining of the pad of my gloves smell like old feet (along with my hands when I take the gloves off).
