This is a funny one ... Which places _will_ you go after a workout without showering?

I've definitely been guilty of heading to the market after a gym session but is that a no no?

I don't think there are very many places I wouldn't go. I always keep some spare clothes and a bag of toiletries in my car so I can clean up, sprinkle some powder, and slap on some deodorant after a run as needed.

Anywhere. The key thing is to change into clean dry clothes. I run with the hash house harriers in Sydney, Australia, the most hygeinne-obsessed place I've ever lived in, and we just put on dry top & shorts before going into a pub. Nobody's offensive, at least in scent.

There is practically nowhere I will go after a workout without showering. Not so much because I think I stink (although my wife would disagree) as because I can't stand the way the salt from dried sweat feels on my skin. If I don't wash it off, I get a rash.

I'm work with the military in Saudi Arabia.  Breaking a sweat is easy to do here.

Recently the guys I work with have started to have meetings for no other reason than they think they need to have a meeting.  IT KILLS ME!  As a form of non-violent protest to the stupid meetings, I have started to go for a good, sweat-inducing run (I have to PT, you know!) and finish up about 15 minutes prior to the start of the meeting du jour.  "Sorry guys...didn't have time to change clothes or shower."

Yesterday, I got the boss and a couple of others to "tap out" and end the meeting early as I sat there in my workout clothes and basked in the fruits of my labor.  25 minutes and we are out of there!  Time to hit the showers!

I know this wouldn't go over well in the business world, but it's starting to help keep me sane and motivate me to get out for a run on the days when I waffling.

    Cheers,

    DeX

I feel the same way.  I can go some places, but if I'm going to be sitting or am going to want to be comfortable, I can't not shower.

I'm shameless, i guess - I'll go anywhere from the grocery store, to a basketball game at the local college (after a change of clothes and a "freshening up") after a work out without a shower.  You can thank the recent sky-high gas prices for that...  hey, I consolidate my trips into town!

I often find that one shower is not enough to wash off the smell of Chlorine from the swimming pool I go to during the day.  So I don't think I ever smell of sweat, but many times I have been in an afternoon meeting and someone has asked "can anyone else smell chlorine?"

I used to drive a taxicab and rode the bike to pick it up (about 8 miles).  I only ever did that once without showering.  Even I was offendedEmbarassed.  From then on I always drove the cab back home and took a shower.

Where I work now has showers and lockers.  Very civilized.

lets see....on a normal day, the coffee shop...but if it's nice out, I will sit on the patio to enjoy my cafe.

When I really don't care, I teach class after a run. Undergrads love the smell of a 30 mile workout.

in summer i ride my bike to work and there are no showers there so i end up air drying and splashing a bit of water over my pits.  Not pleasant, but as long as i avoid small rooms without windows no one has complained. My cycling clothes on the other hand are quite stinky, fortunately no one else uses the closet where i hang them to dry!

I think is not polite to go anyplace, but if it's necessary you should go fast. If anyone complain you should say that you haven't time to shower.

Once, my husband and I went to a Mexican restaurant for lunch after having sweated quite a bit doing house and yard work.  We didn't think we were offensive but a table over from us asked the wait staff to turn on the fan.  And then I over heard them say something about the smell - don't know if they were talking about us, but...  There were a number of workers there too so I didn't think much of it.

I also bike to work but have a half bathroom where I can freshen up when I change into my work clothes.  I also bike to stores and restaurants regularly but usually try not to have a "hard" ride so I don't sweat too much.

The funniest thing is that I usually try not to go anywhere after particularly tough yoga classes because I tend to sweat in all the embarassing places like my butt, and the crease of my groin.

Well, the summers here in AZ require doing any outdoor workout before the sun gets too hot, which means before work, so I always get to shower after.

BUT the winter workouts have to be done after work when it's light out and a little bit warmer. So I go for a run and then straight to daycare for my daughter and almost always stop at the grocery store on the way home. Right now, it is 10pm and I STILL haven't had the chance to shower after my 4pm run!

Well on a hike, or a swim. Oh, or on a swim that is on the way to a hike. I like the idea of getting doughnuts too.

Hm, I'll go almost anywhere after a workout. Except maybe to a formal event, or out for the evening to a bar or something like that. I've had jobs before when the only time to run was at lunch - so, I'd run, regardless of the weather - super hot, or rainy, or whatever. But, I'd always take what I call a "bird bath" afterward. Just soap up and rinse off as much as is possible in the office bathroom. I've taken many a bird bath in the bathrooms at New York Road Runner's Club, matter of fact. After that, I feel presentable enuf to run errands or do some shopping.

I teach, so I feel that I have to smell fresh for the sake of the children.  I don't want to be that teacher that is remembered for his B.O.  We all have that teacher that when we are remembering school with friends we remember them as "Mr. So-and-so with the bad breath or Mr. What's-his-face with the nose hair."  I don't one of my third graders saying to friends 10 years from now, "Do you remember Mr.Wellborn?  He always had the worst B.O. and sweaty pits!"

We do have a workout class after school and I will often stop at the grocery store for the wife.  The way I see it, if I look like I have been working out (work out clothes etc) then I can stink in public.  People who exercise regularly aren't going to be offended and the lazy aren't going to want to say anything.

Agree with KWellborn, I can stink in public if i'm in workout clothes.  I'll drop in at the newsagent or the supermarket after a run, get fuel, go to the bottleshop.  In and out kinda stuff only tho and I try not to get to close to others

I will hit the gas station but that is about it unless I am crunched for time and need to hit the market.  I've been lucky enough to have always worked somewhere with a shower, plus when you are in the military mid-day runs/workouts are encouraged! No one wants to be the classic stinky kid plus I hate the smell of others when I am I am in public.

If I am running with friends, we most often will go to the coffee shop and sit outside (if it's warm enough) or inside if it's not.  Hey, we are all in running clothes and it is obvious what we have been doing. I will stop at the market, too.  However, I drip when I am done and my hat is disgusting, even to me, so I try to make my trips short and to the point.  Fun topic.

In winter I run in my lunch break, and until recently my workplace didn't have showers, so there was no choice. Mind you, I don't sweat heaps and don't have strong BO, so it wasn't too much of a problem.

Now that its summer (in Australia) it's too hot to run during the day, so I run around sunset/dusk. I rarely have to go out past that hour, so I can always shower.

grocery shopping- at least people see that I have been working out if they look at my clothes. The store is very close to the gym, so I am positive I am not the only one! Hey- I worked hard to work up a sweat- I don't feel guilty about smelling:)

The absolute only place I'll go after a run (without a shower) is to the beach. Then I can jump right in the ocean, and nobody can smell me. Then, I can do two need-a-shower things and only take one shower.

I work out at LA Fitness and most of the people there don't even break a sweat as they are too busy checking each other out. I, on the other hand, have no shame in glowing away and no interest in being picked up by some doofus in the gym. Still, I wouldn't go on a date without showering. Coffee shop, occasional emergency grocery shopping, brekkie after half-marathons on Marathon Day.

I think most of us agree that the grocery store is fine - I do what most of you do, put on some deodorant & spray some body splash and I'm good to go!

I've also gone to my yoga class without showering.  I wonder if that's a no-no?  By the end of class everyone's sweating, but I always feel rude starting it already sweaty.  Lol.

Oh boy, since it's winter and too cold to train outside, I've been training at the gym in the evening, so by the time I'm done the only place I may stop is the gas station, or the grocery store. Honestly, I would rather not be seen as I am in a messy state after a good work out!! Home for a shower is best!Tongue out

I almost hit the grocery store today after a running 10 with a dually (two kids)...it was on the way home...decided against it since I was really wet...and cold...drove the 10 miles home, showered, and drove the 10 miles back to the grocery store.  Glad I did the hot shower...but I was really tempted...

I will go just about anywhere after a workout unless i know for a fact that i stink.  I can usually tell if i need to clean up before i go anywhere.  My thing is that the people that would find it offensive or nasty are probably people that don't make fitness a priority in their life and for that i feel sorry for them.
