I have just discovered that keeping a route private does nothing to protect your privacy (a major concern if your routes start or end at your house, for example).

Perhaps the route doesn't show up in public lists or searches, but if you have the URL to a route, Private or not, you can see it - even if you're not logged in.

Where this becomes evident is if you have the Facebook App linked to your account and enable it to show your routes. ALL routes - Public OR Private - are shown in the box and are linked from there.

Again, Public or Private, if some one has the URL to your route (e.g it was once public and you made it private OR it gets leaked through Facebook), they can see it. The silly part is that right there it TELLS you it's a Private route, yet there you are, looking at it.

    PLEASE address this ASAP!

Oblivion, this is partially by design, routes (even if private) can be accessed by URLs (helpful if you want to share your route w/ friends but don't want it being publicly locatable). However private routes shouldn't show up in the facebook list. This is going to get looked at, in the future please send all urgent requests through "Contact Us."

Since you're aware of this I'm just going to put a vote in for the change

I've got a run helpfully entitled "Dark Morning Route" so any perve knows why I run it and when - and yes, it starts at my house.

I'm not too worried at the moment but I'd like to see it removed. Knowing sql, it should be simple to add the simple check into the query.

    thanks

    Sarah

Agree, Also i'd like to show latest workouts or routes, but only the short info, like type of workout, length, distance, but not calories burned, workout weight etc. So no link toview_workout page from facebook list! Cheers, Laura

    Laura,

Under your privacy preferences you can make your training log on available to your friends, private, etc.  This will keep people from being able to access any content you deem private.

    Cheers,

    -Kevin

Thanx Keven. Now I changed it from 'friends' to 'private'. That seems to work. With 'friends' options selected it was still open though - and i don't have any friends in my list (ain't that sad).

I have the same concern - I would love to post just my stats to facebook, but there doesn't seem to be a way to exclude the route information on the facebook app.  Even though I set my MapMyFitness app settings to "Friends Only", that's not going to help, because I have a lot of "friends" that still don't need to know my address.

This is something that needs to be fixed soon. All of my routes are listed as private and when I added the Facebook app to my account, I set it to only show stats so that my routes wouldn't show up there but guess what....when I update my profile box with a workout, it shows up in my newsfeed with a clickable link to the workout (which shows my weight, and such) as well as then a link to my route (WHICH IS PRIVATE)!!! I hate that you have public urls being used for things that many of us have asked to have as private...keeping something from being indexed or searched is not making it PRIVATE...there is a huge difference. The page should not load at all if it is not me, logged in and loading the page myself.

If people want to share their routes with people, they will either make them public or they will put those people in their friends list....either way, those of us that want to use Map My Run for our own info and not to show to others should have the option to keep our routes really private, not just unsearchable.

And just to clarify, I know that I can set my training log to private, but that makes it so that the Facebook app doesn't publish that I did the workout to my newsfeed or to my profile page.

I want the workout to publish in the newsfeed/recent activity, I just don't want it to contain clickable links since my routes are private...right now the profile box seems to update with the workout but I kind of like seeing the workout listed in the recent activity too...
