Virtual Tour Group

Original Forum Thread

Motivation Gallery Thread

If you are here it is likely that you already know what a Virtual Tour (VT) is but a brief description is in order for those that may stumble upon the group.

Virtual Tour: A VT is a map that you create which basically plots a course that consists of your overall training totals. Pick a destination and plot your course. Many have aspirations of going coast to coast. Really it's up to you so have fun.

Group Benefits: As a member of the group you have some nice perks.

  1. There will be a monthly posting of the global locations of group members on the US map as seen below.
  2. I would also like to post some monthly increase charts that would show your percentage of increase as compared with last months distance.
  3. Members will recieve a custom avatar/signature that provides a link back to thier Virtual Tour.
  4. Awards and "Real" world events will be incorporated into member signatures. (VT Member Sigs Are Here!)
  5. Best of all you can stay motivated and stay fit!

Your Help: As you can imagine some effort will be required on my part to keep this group up to date and I will do my best to do so. For now all I ask of you is that you rename your VT route to begin with your user?name.

Example: Floridan's Virtual Tour De South rather than My Virtual Tour De South.

This will allow me to link your VT to the group for easy access.

Good luck and welcome!

Steve that is awesome! What an accomplishment.  This group definitely keeps me motivated too. I got back on the bike tonight for a short 6 miles and it was just like riding a bike!  I'm healed enough to make a run at catching you Steve (if you take every other week off). Keep at it everyone!

Great job all around.  2,000 miles...wow.  I know for sure that this group helps me keep my running log and I look forward to adding my mileage every couple of times a week. Eeking my way across the USA....

Awesome work Steve. Nothing/Nobody can take that away either. Great work! Just knowing your outpacing me, is incouraging me to at least stay in the fight and try to keep up. You're just as much an inspiration!

I rolled over the 2000 mile mark this morning! http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/mo/-frontenac/672833149937 That equals my training miles for all of 2007, my best year before now. I've got 2 centuries coming up in September and another in October, so if I stay healthy I should easily make my 3000 mile goal for this year. Stay with me guys -- the Virtual Tour Group is great inspiration! Steve

Wow, congrats on the 3rd place finish! But what is this "probably could have gone faster"??? We always drive over on 18 to I-35 and up to Minnesota. Haven't seen the Best Western, but I'm sure it's as nice as they come.  Wait, isn't that where that big outdoor wooden maze is?  We've stopped there!!! Thanks for the encouragement. I should clear 2000 miles Wednesday morning. And I think I can see Seattle just up there on the horizon! Steve

Steve, it was a great course. Just across the lake are the windmills, which were moving pretty good while out running. I set a new PR for my 5k run actually, and probably could have gone faster. I had plenty in the tank nearing the end. I ran the 3.1 in 28'52" and placed 3rd in the 20-29 male age group. It was a whole lot of fun. Speaking of Mason City, I'm actually right between Clear Lake and Mason City on Hwy 18. I'm just west of I-35 toward Clear Lake in a Best Western. Does that sound familiar too? Keep up w/ the mileage man. You're kicking butt and taking names.

Hey Lost, looks like a great event.  How'd you do?  I'd love to say I placed in the top 65 in my first 5k race!  ;-) I looked at the route - that's about where all those windmills are, isn't it?  We drive through there every year to visit my family in Minneapolis, and I have an aunt & uncle on my mother's side living near Mason City. Even though I'm relocated to Iowa for a few months, I somehow managed to find a nice 5k, called the Dream Big 5k race set up for this Sunday. Granted, it's no 10/half/or full marathon, but apparently it's a small local race for this town, and it will work as a good training run for me too. I picked up my packet and my number is #65. I am currently the last one to register. Yea it's that small. I'm pretty excited about it too. This will be my first race back since I fractured my leg in April, and had to rebuild my running program. I've been using the FIRST book, that JB mentioned a while back, so I should be pretty prepared. I sure hope so. Currently I'm pushing somewhere between 15-20mi/week in running and then another 40-60mi/wk on the bike, so the aerobic level is there; I'll just need to be calm for the run. Just thought I'd share my excitement.

See you guys wouldn't have a problem if you were slower like me Haven't heard from Floridan but probably got busy and will be back.  I know lately I haven't been able to keep up as much as I like but still tracking on my map.  Should hit New Hampshire by this weekend. FYI - didn't buy that bike.  Still looking but got busy lately so my search has slowed.
