description: This run has been updated to add more mileage. For any runner making a visit to Long Beach, this is the ultimate sightseeing run. You'll see about 90 percent of all of the downtown sights. Begin at the southwest corner of Pine and Ocean Avenues. Head south on Pine. While on Pine you'll pass the convention center and the new Pike entertainment district with shops, restaurants and theaters. You'll turn west onto Shoreline Drive and then turn south on Aquarium Way. Follow the first roundabout past the Aquarium of the Pacific and pick up the sidewalk heading south. Once you get to the end of Aquarium Way you'll reach a second roundabout. Take this roundabout to the running/biking path and head west. You'll turn north on the path heading toward the Catalina Express terminal, where boats make several daily runs between Long Beach and Avalon. When you get to the terminal head west once again and then pick up the trail heading south out to a point overlooking Rainbow Harbor and the famous RMS Queen Mary cruise ship. Once you reach the point, double back past the Catalina Express terminal and find your way back to the running/biking path. You'll now be heading east along the path back to Aquarium Way and the second rounabout. But don't take the roundabout this time. Instead continue eastbound on the running/biking path. The path takes you into Shoreline Park, where you'll get a closer view of Rainbow Harbor and the Queen Mary. The path will wind around a faux lighthouse that will afford you a great view of the downtown skyline. The path will lead you back toward the Aquarium of the Pacific, but instead of heading toward the front entrance, veer off toward the water and follow the outline of the piers. You'll pass different sailing ships offering such services as whale watching and dinner cruises. You'll also pass several eating establishments. Once past the piers, veer off toward Shoreline Drive and head east to Shoreline Village Drive. Turn south on the sidewalk, which will lead you into Shoreline Village, a New England style fishing village with shops and restaurants. Head west once again and run through the village past Parker's Lighthouse restaurant. Follow the path south until you again find the running/biking path on the jetty that serves as the breakwater for the downtown marina. Take the outer path all the way to the end of the jetty, run around the building at the end of the jetty, and then take the inner sidewalk closest to the marina which will lead you back to the main bike path. On your jetty run you'll get an even closer view of the Queen Mary across the harbor. When you get off the jetty, find your way back onto Shoreline Village Drive and head east. The street will lead you to a third roundabout. Follow the roundabout north on Shoreline Village Drive until you come to a driveway for the marina parking lot. Turn eastbound into the parking lot and proceed past the Shoreline Yacht Club offices. Go past the offices and continue east for another quarter mile until you come to another driveway. Find the sidewalk next to the driveway and turn northbound. Stop at the crosswalk on Shoreline Drive. When safe cross over Shoreline Drive and head into the parking lot of the Long Beach Sports Arena. You can't miss the arena. It's a big blue building with gigantic murals of whales painted by the noted artist Wyland. Pass the toll booths into the arena parking lot and then proceed westbound toward the arena. Run through the arena's courtyard and then veer north onto Hart Place. Be advised that Hart Place is a moderately steep hill. Climb Hart Place to Ocean Avenue and turn west onto Ocean. Take Ocean west past the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. Make sure to bypass the first set of crosswalks. Head west until you reach the Promenade North. Cross to the other side of Ocean and turn west. Take Ocean west to the northeast corner of Ocean and Pine, where your run will end in front of the Renaissance Hotel.
