600 miles of training in preparation for riding across Iowa may seem like a daunting distance, but spread out over 6 weeks, members participating in the MapMyRun.com RAGBRAI Readiness Challenge need to cycle only about 10 miles per day and a long ride on the weekends to meet the goal.
Members can measure their success against other members. MapMyRun.com provides participating members with the site's tools, including course mapping with elevation and distance, street and topographical map viewing, and workout logging.
Dave Ertl via the RAGBRAI website at http://ragbrai.com proposes a simple schedule for success in a 6-week training program for RAGBRAI that (as an amateur, NOT an expert!) I've adapted for myself with extra padding to try to reach the preferred 700-mile mark if I do all the riding or at least make 600 miles even if I don't follow the schedule exactly!
