From 400 lbs to a Marathon

In August 2007 I was 390 plus pounds, like many I always tried to lose weight but couldn't stick to it. While on a cruise after a week of fitting tightly into the seats and feeling like everyone was watching me while I ate, I decided to make a change. After being around my brother in law for that week, his attitude and will power rubbed off on me. I decided to sign up for a race, a marathon. I figured with 5 months to go I could lose a few pounds and walk/run it and keep pace. I jump out to fast, injuries happened about two months from the race, I never fully recovered like I wanted to and my training suffered. When Disney came along, I was confident I could keep pace, I couldn't, I was picked up at mile 2. Talk about damaging your pride. It hurt for a while, my plan was to do Disney then do the Green Bay Marathon in May. I was in a slump and it was a hard one to get out of. When Green Bay was getting close I needed a spark, I decided to sign up for the half marathon and along with it make a Mr. Marathoner web site to track my progress. At 380 lbs I finished my first half marathon. It was a huge step, but I wasn't finished. I kept going and a little over a month ago I finished my second half marathon with a 33 minute improvement, I felt even better the weight is coming off, and it is coming off the right way, not too fast. So here I am in November with a little over 9 weeks to go until the Walt Disney World Marathon on January 2009. I am estimating I will be 100 pounds down or so by then and I won't have to worry about the pace truck. After Disney I plan on continuing running marathons until I reach my goal weight and beyond, I wouldn't be Mr. Marathoner if I didn't.
