I'm a life-long runner, having started in 5th grade or so. Been running fairly steadily since 1979 or so. I didn't start marathons until 1996, and I had no clue about what I was doing at first. While living in Tucson, AZ, I met some guys who took me on a brutal 16-mile loop you'll see below. It's called Bart's Loop, after Bart Erickson, who charted the course. It's the reason I finally broke three hours for the marathon. I've done 16 marathons now and my PR is 2:48:29. I was on pace for a new PR in June, '06 when my plantar fascia ripped in three places, causing me to hop the last 10 miles. I've recovered enough to run daily again and I went back to that race and finished in 2:53. Not bad. I've done a half-Ironman triathlon and a few sprint distance events. I'll do an Ironman before I'm too old and decrepit. If I can't run fast anymore due to the injury, I'll probably switch to ultra-distance events. We'll see.
