I enjoy the simultaneous brotherhood and meditative singleness it creates. I enjoy the progress you see as sights, smells, light, heat and perspiration change. I do not like treadmills. I'm married to a woman with whom a strong friendship was created with by means of running together in college. We don't run together now, but we're still great friends. Mapmyrun.com gives me an opportunity to provide a narrative of my running adventure through states, countries, landscapes and cities - my maps are a part of my story.

Leaving highschool = Gene @ 240 lbs (ex-football player). Beginning college - I started running to "get fit." Appearing unhealthy to some, I lost about 60 lbs or so over the course of two years. At some point, tore an ACL. The fact that I was running before helped me to get back out on my legs in 4 months rather than 6. ---- I grew up in Alabama in a family where it was a sin to leave anything on your plate. I HATED running growing up. College opened a ton of doors for me, one of those was a love for running. I loved the space to meditate it gave me while I ran on open country roads. It gave a new perspective to me as I ran through various urbanities to see the diversity of income and lifestyle erupting into the lives of humanity. It has helped me to become more disciplined and an arena to feed a sometimes addictive personality.
